Fresh from reaching the final at the New York Flash Film Festival this year with his insightful “Crossing Borders” documentary, film director Jason Sheppard’s latest project takes him back to his first love: music.

“Last time I was in New York, I was hanging out with David Bowie’s producer, Toni Visconti. He was in a documentary I shot about Marc Bolan’s legacy. [Jeepster – A tribute to T-Rex. New York City part 1] So it’s been a lot of fun to get back to working with great retro-sounding music again.” said Sheppard.

The music video for Tash Hagz’s latest track, “The Ballad Of Sanaleigh” was filmed in a secret woodland location in the heart of Tolkien-inspired, Worcestershire, England.

Hagz said: “This is the original middle-earth. Tolkien wrote The Hobbit, and The Lord Of The Rings surrounded by this beautiful countryside. It’s amazing to get the opportunity to work with a great film director in such a charming location.”

The track was produced by Holland-based producer Idan Altman who described it as, “A wonderfully haunting kaleidoscope of psychedelic folk meeting prog rock.”

In homage to the mixed-media hypnosis found at the start of a Pink Floyd LP, “The Ballad of Sanaleigh” starts in a fog of reeling noise and passive pulsations before quickly fading into the gentle strum of an acoustic guitar and the soaring melodic vocals.

Whilst the self-penned track openly pulls ideas from an era gone by, it takes the Summer of Love vibe and remakes it for the modern age. Embark on a magical odyssey of 60s psychedelia bathed in folk and dried with prog rock.

Altman added, “It’s one of my favourite tracks that I worked with Tash Hagz on, and I’m sure that Bowie, Bolan and even Bilbo Baggins would approve.”
